NODA REVIEW
The production flowed well despite several scene changes in both acts. The orchestra was very good but with two or three exceptions completely drowned out the soloists in most of their numbers. There was no problem with the full chorus on stage, but as the songs clarify the story, the opening scene especially was confusing, partly due to the characters costume not identifying them clearly in some cases.
Ugly, played by Roger Nuttall, was dressed in a way which did not seem to fit the part but he still gave a reasonable performance as did Barry Heeks as Drake. The role of Cat was performed by Craig Nixon but quite a bit of his solo did not come across. The important role of Ida Honk’s mum was superbly played by Liz Blundell. Also Jamie Taylor’s playing of Bullfrog came across well. Congratulations to Jane Catterall who played three parts extremely well. Her scene as Lowbutt the Chicken with Queenie, the Cat (Gabby McCoy), another good performance, was splendid. Ann O’Shea played Maureen and Vincent Taylor the humorous Turkey.
Finally, in act two, we had a lovely cameo which I must mention from Nicola Fishwick who stood out as Penny. They principals were well supported by a large cast of children and Adults. My congratulations to all.
