NODA REVIEW
A good deal of hard work had gone into this production but the script was not a help and so we had a lot of jokes instead of a witty script. Aladdin played by Fiona Porritt did well. Wishee Washee was played by Kieron Garlick and his mum, Widow Twankey, by Michael Wignall who had some good moments and looked the part. For once Kath Ashworth was a goodie and did a fine job as the Empress of China. Martin Foster played the mod Genie of the Lamp and the Spirit of the Ring was in the safe hands of Jill Hicks. The two policemen, played by Phil Armstrong and Leanne Downes, made a hit with the children and we had a pretty Princess in the form of Sarah –Jayne Amos.
During the evening we had two outstanding performances: firstly from Lily Bundell who was excellent as So Shy, and what a smashing voice she has. Secondly, the nasty evil Abanazar, played by Rob Armstrong, who gave a well, thought out portrayal of this man the kids love to hiss and boo – and they did – at length. With a supporting cast of enthusiastic young boys and girls it was a colourful show which had pace and in the main worked well.
